Our Diocese is taking an innovative and creative approach in bringing
the Good News to people from all walks of life. The Catholic Center at
the Citadel opened its doors to the public on November 23rd, 2001 to
serve the community.
The Center is located on the upper level of the Citadel Mall in
Colorado Springs, between Burlington Coat Factory and Dillards. The
Catholic Center is staffed by five Capuchin Franciscans under the
leadership of Fr. Curtis Carlson, O.F.M. Cap. About sixty dedicated
volunteers provide them assistance.
Celebration of the Eucharist is held in the chapel Monday through
Saturday (closed on Sundays), and prayer intentions are welcome. Referrals
to parishes and Catholic Charities' programs and services, and opportunities
to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in English or Spanish are some
of the services that the Capuchins provide at the Center.
While the Catholic Center offers services that are directed towards the
people of Catholic faith, you do not have to be Catholic to benefit from
the services. It is open to everyone, whether you are a devout Catholic,
or someone who would like to explore and learn more about the Catholic
faith, vocation or religious order, or simply looking for a quiet place
to meditate.
As with any non-profit ministry, the Catholic Center needs financial
support to cover the cost of daily operating expenses. The Center will
receive partial funding from the 108 Councils of the Knights of Columbus
from the state of Colorado. However, additional funding is needed to
ensure the Center's continued operation. If you would like to volunteer
or provide financial support to the Catholic Center and its worthwhile
ministry, please contact The Catholic Center at the Citadel at
(719) 573-7364.
